A school accountant has lost sight in his left eye in a road rage attack by ‘Puja revellers’ on Sunday night at Jharkhand capital Ranchi.
The victim, identified as Ravi Shankar, an accountant with the Shradhanand Bal Mandir Senior Secondary School at Ratu Road was walking to his house on Devi Mandap Road after handing over his SUV to a friend when the incident took place.
According to the FIR lodged with the Sukhdev Nagar police station on Monday by the 48-year-old victim, they had a religious function at their house and had handed over their SUV to a friend for parking to make space for accommodating the guests for the function.
“It was around 9.45pm on Sunday when I handed over the SUV to one of my friends and was walking towards my home when around 10 youths on a three-wheeler came behind me and were continuously honking.
“Irritated, I told them to stop honking as there was a lot of space on the road. At this the three wheeler swerved and the youths came out and started hitting blows on me and also hit me with rods,” the FIR of the victim reads.
The FIR also claims that the victim could identify few of the youths.
The youths were associated with a Kali Puja committee at Sarovarnagar in the Sukhdev Nagar police station area.
“The youths snatched away my golden necklace and also forcibly snatched my wallet. There was nearly Rs 4,500 cash in the wallet.
“They then discussed amongst themselves that they would damage my eyes so that I could not see them. They then hit one of my eye with rod as I fell on the ground and then left the spot,” the FIR reads.
In the FIR, the victim has named five youths who were involved in the assault and four-five unnamed youths.
Rana Shankar, the younger brother of the victim, told The Telegraph that they immediately rushed their brother to Kashyap Eye Hospital on Sunday night itself.
“The doctor operated on the eye on Monday and said that the left eye has been damaged completely.
“All the youths who attacked my brother are associated with a Kali Puja committee in Sarovarnagar,” said Rana Shankar, who owns an eatery.
