The pending project for the construction of a railway under bridge connecting Katras and Dhanbad began on Sunday.

Locals celebrated the occasion by taking out a tiranga yatra with the national flag. Notably, the Rs 2 crore project to connect Katras and Rajganj is quite crucial for residents of Baghmara and Katras as their journey between Katras and Rajganj will be easier.

The railway has planned to execute the project in three phases which will be followed by two other rounds of work to be carried on February 10 and February 22.

Several trains have been cancelled, diverted and rescheduled as per the detailed plan prepared by railway for executing the project.

'Asansol Gaya Asansol MEMU train (03545-46), Asansol Varanasi Asansol MEMU Train (03553/03554) and Burdwan Hatia Burdwan MEMU (03503/03504) remained cancelled while Howrah Kolkata Jammu Tawi Express (12351) has been rescheduled for 40 minutes from Howrah.

The diverted trains for Sunday included, Poorva Express (12381)which instead of running on Asansol-Dhanbad-Gaya-Mughalsarai (Deendayal Upadhyay) plied on Asansol Jhajha Patna-Mughalsarai route. Similarly Jammutawi Kolkata Express (13152) plied on Mughalsarai Patna Jhajha Asansol route instead of normal route of Mughalsarai-Gaya-Dhanbad-Asansol. Lal Kuan Howrah Express (123540) on the other hand also plied on Mughalsarai-Patna- Jhajha- Asansol route instead of its normal route of Mughalsarai-Gaya-Dhanbad- Asansol line.

Notably, the East Central Railway has also announced the cancellation and diversion of trains for the next two rounds of construction work including on February 10 and February 22 during which the same three trains including, Asansol Gaya Asansol MEMU train (03545-46), Asansol Varanasi Asansol MEMU Train (03553/03554) and Burdwan Hatia Burdwan MEMU (03503/03504) would remain cancelled.
