Palamau tiger reserve officials overpowered two of the five poachers on Monday before the commission of crime against wild life. Kumar Ashish deputy director North division of the tiger reserve Palamau said they not only nabbed the two poachers but recovered 5 country-made guns as well.
"There were in fact 5 poachers all having one country-made gun in their hands in and around the grass land of Lokiya under the Chhipadohar east range of the tiger reserve. They were spotted by our men and given a chase too. Three of the 5 poachers managed to flee but they threw their 3 country made guns in the jungles," he said.
He said the poaching of the deer took place at village Akhra close to the Betla National Park which houses around 5,000 plus deer. The deer was skinned off and its flesh chopped off he said.
Betla range officials recovered the head and hide of the poached deer, he added.
There was also the recovery of a tarazu (balance) from the poacher. The balance was there for selling the deer meat. PTR officials had arrested one more person identified as Arvind Sao on Sunday along with Munna.
On Monday Munna, Arvind, Krishna and Ashok were remanded in judicial custody in Latehar informed Ashish. Deer poaching goes up soon after the Basant Panchmi festival and reaches high when the Holi festival is in the offing.
Deputy director North division of the tiger reserve Palamau said, "We have intensified our patrolling and vigil but deer have a habit of straying into human habitation or near it thus getting exposed and vulnerable to the poaching."
