The state’s urban development department has proposed a new road overbridge (ROB) from Rajendra Chowk to Siramtoli Chowk, to the state road construction department, to decongest traffic.

Urban development department secretary Vinay Kumar Choubey on Tuesday wrote to the road construction department, citing the suggestions by chief minister Hemant Soren to streamline traffic on this route.

The existing 2-km road overbridge from Kadru to Rajendra Chowk is one of the lifelines of the capital, connecting the railway station, Doranda, airport and others from Kadru.

However, it is always chock-a-block with traffic and needs regular need for repair and maintenance.

Choubey said, “There is a need for an alternative option to streamline the traffic and regulate vehicular movement in the area. This overbridge could directly help vehicular traffic movement from Kadru to reach Bahu Bazar, railway station and beyond or vice versa without having the need to pass through the overbridge on the main road. It will help to solve the traffic problems both at Kadru bridge and the overbridge.”

He said in nearly two decades, after the formation of Jharkhand and Ranchi becoming the state capital, vehicular traffic has increased manifold but roads have become narrower.

Soren, who is also the minister for state urban development department, wanted a redressal of Ranchi’s urban traffic situation.

“The letter is in view of the chief minister’s directions,” Choubey said.

He added that the department has also redone the Kantatoli flyover project by extending it till Bahu Bazar for ease of mobility and better connectivity with key roads.
