Several areas serviced by Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL), including Mango, Jugsalai and Chhota Govindpur, faced power crisis on Friday due to short supply from the state load despatch centre.

Over a lakh residents of Mango experienced erratic power supply from morning as the power substation at Kuar Basti and Dimna are getting a meagre supply. There was no power from 9am to 11am in places like Zakirnagar, Daiguttu, Dimna Road and the area around Payal Cinema and Post Office Road.

“Both Golmuri and Gamharia power grid substations are getting inadequate power from state load despatch and this is causing power crisis,” said a senior official of JBVNL’s Singhbhum electricity supply.

The Golmuri powergrid station is currently getting a meagre 25MW against its requirement of 45MW, while the Gamharia grid substation, which supplies power to Adityapur industrial area and other residential areas, is getting around 80MW against its requirement of 120MW.

The official said one of the units of Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) had developed a snag, which is further causing short-supply and power crisis.

Residents of Chhota Govindpur and Ghorabandha witnessed prolonged power cuts for five hours from 9am. Power also played hide-and-seek in Jugsalai, Adityapur and Sundernagar.

A JBVNL official, S. Mahato, said they were expecting the power supply to improve late in the night.

“There are no local faults. The impending power crisis is due to short supply from Ranchi. Efforts are being made to resolve the issue,” he said.

Defunct pumps

State food and civil supplies minister and Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy on Friday inspected drinking water schemes and found defunct pumps at three locations in Mango. He instructed MNAC special officer Rajendra Prasad to repair the pumps within a week.
