With the Covid-19 situation much under control, the Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA) has decided to be back on track with a primary focus on promoting sports among women. As a landmark initiative, JSA plans to start the women’s volleyball league for the aspiring players of the steel city. This would be a first of its kind and pioneering endeavour for the girls yearning to make it to city teams.

Besides volleyball, JSA is also resuming the women's football league in Decemmber-end. Return of its Women’s Football League towards the end of the year 2021 is also on the anvil. It had successfully hosted the inaugural women’s football league in the summer of 2019 with Arjuna Awardee Oinam Bembem Devi inaugurating the event. The league was planned as an annual event with expansion plans before the pandemic hit the world.

JSA secretary Avinash Kumar said they were keen to organise both volleyball and football leagues in an efficient and hassle-free manner. "We think women should also be given ample opportunity to showcase their talent. The volleyball and football leagues would be apt platforms for them. Now things have opened up post-Covid and we want to resume our activities at the earliest," he added.

Both volleyball and football leagues were planned at JRD Tata Sports Complex in the last week of December.

Kumar, a former Bihar Ranji Trophy skipper and senior manager at the Tata Steel sports wing, said clubs, associations and institutions interested to participate in the volleyball and football leagues can collect the affiliation forms from the JRD Tata Sports Complex till November 30 and submit to him within December 11-12.

The registration forms will be distributed from December 17 onwards and the forms can be collected from the sports complex from 10 am to 1.00 pm.

Tata Steel-patronised JSA, has been organising the popular football league (for men) in Jamshedpur for over four decades. The league serves as a platform for players to get selected in the state squads for national competitions.
