The city civic body has launched two helpline numbers for parking-related grievances and a common toll-free number for civic gripes will be ready by the first week of February.

Acting on the directive of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has issued the helpline numbers and tagged two dedicated city managers for prompt solutions to parking problems.

“Our city manager Ravishankar Bharti will be looking after parking bays existing in Jamshedpur East Assembly areas and will be available on helpline number 7004787828 while those parking vehicles at dedicated bays in Jamshedpur West Assembly areas can dial 9631226455 and our city manager Ambuj Kumar will be available for prompt solution to their woes,” JNAC special officer Krishna Kumarsaid on Friday.

“The helpline numbers will be effective between 10am and 10 pm,” he added.

Major parking bays in Jamshedpur West Assembly segment are in Kadma and Bistupur areas.

The parking bays in Jamshedpur East Assembly segment are found in Sakchi, Kasidih, Golmuri and Sidhgora areas.

“We have also applied to BSNL for a common toll-free number for all civic issues which would be available 24x7,” said Krishna Kumar.

“We hope to get the number functional by the first week of February. Anyone can call this number to register their grievances pertaining to civic issues like waste collection, parking, street lights, water supply, etc.”

The civic body has also directed private contractors entrusted with the task of managing the parking bays to ensure safety of the vehicles.

They have been told to delete the line “parking at owner’s risk” from the parking receipt issued after payment of the fee.

“There had been a complaint from several sections about the line mentioned in the parking receipt in a parking bay managed by the administration,” said Krishna Kumar.

“So, we have asked the contractors to delete the line ‘parking at owner’s risk’ from the receipt. Henceforth, the staff at the parking bays have to look after the safety of the vehicles parked in the bays and in case of any damage they have to lodge an FIR.”

The JNAC traffic advisory panel constituted in May 2018 had in July planned parking colour codes such as green (far from street/market), yellow (nearer to market), orange (nearest) and red (no parking) and also fixed variable tariff for various colours.

The parking fee varies between Rs 5 and 10 for two-wheelers while charges for four-wheelers vary between Rs 10 and Rs 20.

There are six private contractors looking after paid parking bays in the major commercial hubs of the city, including Bistupur and Sakchi.
