No reprive for Dhullu Mahto against his arrest

BRIEFS: Dhullu, now on the run, had sought bail in a case of rioting, arms act and attempt-to-murder

The court of additional district and sessions Judge III, Rajiv Kumar Sinha, hearing Baghmara MLA Dhullu Mahto’s anticipatory bail plea on Tuesday, demanded a case diary from the police in the next hearing 10 days later but didn’t give any reprieve against his arrest. Dhullu, now on the run, had sought bail in a case of rioting, arms act and attempt-to-murder filed on February 14 by neighbour Doman Mahto.

Incab fresh petition

Jayanta Banerjee, the former joint secretary of The Indian Cable Company Workers’ Union, on Tuesday filed a petition with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLT) in New Delhi challenging the tribunal order to liquidate the company. The Calcutta bench of NCLT on February 7 had passed the liquidation order. On Monday, Incab Sanyukt Morcha president Bhagwati Singh filed a plea before Jharkhand HC questioning Tata Steel’s claim on 177 acres on which Incab is located.

PDS plea to Hemant

A combined delegation of Right to Food Campaign, Jharkhand NREGA Watch, and Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha met chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday and placed their demands, including the supply of pulses, oil and locally grown vegetables under the public distribution system, supply of at least five eggs a week to school students and anganwadi children and also cash benefits to mothers with two children under the Rashtriya Matritwa Vandana scheme instead of only to mothers with one child. The chief minister said he would consider the demands.

Truck on fire

A truck, carrying medicine items, clothes, spices and mustard oil, gutted when the vehicle caught fire on Monday morning near Ratu Road. There was no casualty. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained.

Neighbour trespass

The police on Tuesday arrested Sadanand Gaur, 28, for allegedly ransacking the house of his neighbour Onkar Nath Singh at Gaur Bustee in Mango in the small hours of Tuesday. The police arrested Gaur based on CCTV footage of the accused. Probe is on.

Heroin arrest

Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovering 20gm heroin and Rs 73,000 from them. Both Rahul Kumar, 28, and Ranjit Kumar, 19, are from Garhwa town, SDPO Bahman Tuti said. The heroin was hidden in their bike.

Dowry death cry

Newly married Rakhi Devi, 22, was poisoned to death on Tuesday by her in-laws over dowry at Baghmari under Sareyahat police station here, her brother Rahul Raut alleged in an FIR. Rahul told the Sareyahat police that his sister’s in-laws had demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry and poisoned her when they did not get the money. The body has been sent for autopsy.

Duo dead

The mangled bodies of two men in their early 20s were on Tuesday found from an under-construction house besides Choreya Mangal Bazar Road, some 25km from the capital in Chanho police station area.

The bodies, smashed beyond recognition, have not been identified so far.

Police have filed a case of murder and sent the bodies for autopsy at RIMS.
