Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (Juidco), which is supervising the construction work of the 1,225-metre-long Kantatoli flyover, will execute a mega night blockade on the stretch for a fortnight to speed up the capital’s first flyover and its approach roads.
The mega blockade on Kantatoli stretch will be effective from Sunday till July 2, during which traffic will be restricted from 10pm to 6am every day, a Juidco source said.
The blockade will be on two legs of Kantatoli; Lowadih and Dangartoli, and two phases. In the first phase, the blockade will be on at Lowadih till June 24, when traffic will be routed through Birsa Munda bus stand, Kantatoli Chowk, Dangratoli, Bahu Bazar, Shanti Nagar and Kokar. The second blockade will start at Dangartoli from June 25 till July 2. Here, traffic will be diverted towards Karbala Chowk, Mission Chowk, Lalpur and Kokar.
The official said they would use the blockade period to lay as many as seven water supply pipelines of 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 500mm, 600mm, 750mm and 900mm.
“Kantatoli is a crisscross of pipelines drawn from Rukka and Hatia dam. They have to be laid afresh in view of the flyover, Due to heavy traffic on the stretch we were unable to complete this work,” said the official.
The official also said that by Monday evening they would complete the construction of the concrete diversion road from Kantatoli Chowk towards Kokar.
“The double diversion road, which is 1.5km-long, is 6-metres-wide on both sides. In fact, the diversion road was constructed months back but bitumen laying could not be complete due to heavy traffic. By this month-end, the diversion road will be extended up to Bahu Bazar from Kantatoli Chowk. Now people won’t have to commute on a bumpy road,” the official said.
Juidco geared up to quicken the pace of the flyover construction after CM Raghubar Das, at a review meeting on Friday afternoon, expressed his displeasure over the slow progress and the inconvenience faced by commuters.
