Two more toll plazas are slated to come up on the NH-33 near Jamshedpur soon, making the total number of such plazas to three between the Ghatsila sub-division in the East Singhbhum district and Chandil in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
While one of the toll plazas is being created along the Petro village near Galudih about 35 km away from here on the Calcutta route, another one is coming up along the Pata village approaching Chandil from the steel city. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) which is setting up the toll plazas started the construction work for the Petro plaza on Thursday. Project director, NHAI, Col. Ajay Kapoor said work for the Pata plaza will begin shortly.
"The construction work at Petro toll plaza began today. It will take three months time for the project to be completed. Then only the plaza will start functioning," said Col. Kapoor while talking to The Telegraph Online.
The project director said there were strong objections from a section of the locals against the Petro toll plaza. "Following the resentment, the matter reached the court from where the NHAI got the green signal. Then only did we start the construction work, " Kapoor said. A toll plaza is already in place on the NH-33 at Kokpara in Ghatsila sub-division on the way to Calcutta, about only 40 km away from the site of the Petro plaza.
“The proposed Pata toll plaza near Chandil is 64 km away from the site of the Petro toll plaza. Significantly, AK Singh, consultant of the Pata toll plaza while talking to The Telegraph Online said there should be a minimum of 60 km distance between two toll plazas. And hence there was no issue for setting up a plaza at Pata,” he added.
The consultant for the Petro plaza, Raghu Yadav, however, had no clue about the reason behind the Petro plaza not fulfilling the criterion in setting up a plaza next to the Kokpara plaza.
