The state government on Saturday cancelled the notification issued by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) for the combined civil services examinations to fill up 267 posts for which the JPSC had issued a notification a few days ago.
The proposed combined exam comprised the seventh, eighth and ninth JPSC exams. Its cancellation comes at a time when interviews for the sixth JPSC exam are on.
A source in the government said the exam was postponed for a relook into the existing reservation policy.
The JPSC has no reservation provision in the preliminary exam, only in the main and the interview stages. But local job aspirants, students’ outfits and even some political parties have been demanding reservations from the preliminary exam.
To look into the matter in depth, the government has decided to form a three-member panel headed by development commissioner Sukhdeo Singh, the other members being additional chief secretary-cum-finance secretary K.K. Khandelwal and personnel department secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh.
The government source said a number of reservation-related petitions were pending before the high court regarding the sixth JPSC exam as well but the ongoing recruitment process would continue, contrary to media reports that said the government intended to cancel it.
