Taking a cue from the peaceful sit-in at Shaheen Bagh, which has emerged as the epicentre of the anti-citizenship law protests in New Delhi for over a month now, women from different parts of the state began an indefinite agitation in front of Haj House at Kadru here on Monday.

By 3.30pm, as many as 200 women had assembled at the make-shift pandal decorated with the fluttering national flags and pictures of martyred revolutionaries.

Women were holding placards with slogans against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) written on them.

“Chalo pyar baante, desh nahi”, and “Hindu Muslim Bhai Bhai, CAA, NRC, NPR ko bye-bye” read some of the banners.

Musayada Yunus chose to register her protest in a poetic way.

Armed with pictures of freedom fighters Ram Prasad Bismil and Bhagat Singh, she held aloft a placard that read: “Sarfarosi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hain zor kitna baazue qatil mein hai”.

A tree near the venue was decorated with pictures of Chandra Shekhar Azad. Close to it was placed a banner carrying the picture of aerospace scientist and former President of India APJ Kalam and a copy of the Preamble to the Constitution.

Asked which organisation was behind this demonstration, Yasmin Lal, a protester from Harmu, replied: “We the people.”

Nushi Begum, Yasmin Parveen, Seema Parveen and Juhee Aashia nodded in agreement.

“This demonstration is not being organised by any political party or organisation. Each woman is taking part in her individual capacity to protest against the CAA, which is not in favour of the unity and integrity of the secular, socialist and democratic republic,” Yasmin said.

Social worker Tanveer Ahmed is extending logistics supporting to these gutsy women.

“We have arranged for food. To beat the cold in winter nights, there is arrangement for bonfires. The protesters should not have to worry about the trifles,” Ahmed said.

President of Anjuman Islamia, Ibrar Ahmed, has teken care of security .

“Please put up a barricade here and ensure that no one crosses it. The women here should feel safe and secure,” he was heard instructing some of the male volunteers at the venue.

This is the second demonstration against the CAA-NRC-NPR in Kadru. On January 12, a demonstration was held at Idgah ground in the same locality.
