Several parts of the state, especially the north-eastern, southern and central regions, are expected to experience heavy rainfall from July 28 due to the impact of a cyclonic circulation and low-pressure trough.
Both the IMD Met centre in Ranchi and the regional Met centre at Alipore in Calcutta issued downpour alerts in their bulletins on Sunday.
“We are expecting heavy rain in central, north-eastern and southern Jharkhand due to the impact of the twin systems currently impacting Jharkhand 's weather. We have also issued an alert of thunderstorm and lightning," said S.D. Kotal, director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
The southern region of Jharkhand covers Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Simdega and Seraikela-Kharsawan, while the central parts include Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh and capital Ranchi. The north-east covers places like Deoghar, Dhanbad and Dumka.
The southwest monsoon was weak over Jharkhand during the last 24 hours. Met statistics revealed only light to moderate rain at isolated places of Jharkhand during this time.
Three places, Latehar, Ramgarh and Bokaro, recorded around 20mm rain.
The local Met observatory in Jamshedpur recorded around 10mm rain while Chaibasa and Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum recorded around 5mm.
On Sunday, the monsoon trough was passing through Bikaner, Narnaul Fursatganj, Patna , Malda and Meghalaya. The cyclonic circulation was hovering 4.5km above the mean sea level.
