Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule beats Baahubali 2 to become highest grossing Indian film of all time

Directed by Sukumar, the sequel to 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise has so far collected Rs 1,062.9 crore nett domestically

Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule has emerged as the highest-grossing film of all time at the Indian box office, crossing the lifetime domestic collections of S.S. Rajamouli’s 2017 film Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, according to latest trade reports.

Directed by Sukumar, the sequel to 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise has so far collected Rs 1,062.9 crore nett domestically, surpassing the previous record of Rs 1,030.42 crore nett held by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017, as per industry data-tracking platform Sacnilk.

According to Sacnilk, Pushpa 2 had a strong start at the domestic box office, earning Rs 725.8 crore nett in its first week and Rs 264.8 crore nett in its second week. It maintained momentum in its third weekend, collecting Rs 14.3 crore nett on Friday, Rs 24.75 crore nett on Saturday, and Rs 33.25 crore nett on Sunday.

The Hindi version contributed Rs 679.65 crore nett, the largest share of the total collection, followed by the Telugu version, which earned Rs 307.8 crore nett. The Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions brought in Rs 54.05 crore nett, Rs 14.04 crore nett and Rs 7.36 crore nett, respectively.

Pushpa 2 continues the story of Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun), a red sandalwood smuggler grappling with the expansion of his illegal trade. The film stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu and Rao Ramesh in key roles.

Despite the dominance of Pushpa 2, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, released on December 20, has managed a respectable performance at the Indian box office. The animated musical collected Rs 8.8 crore nett on its opening Friday, Rs 13.7 crore nett on Saturday, and Rs 18.75 crore nett on Sunday, bringing its domestic total to Rs 41.25 crore nett.
