Significantly, for giving the proposed renovation plan a proper shape, a private agency has from Tuesday started the process of carrying out soil testing by digging earth at a number of spots on the hospital premises.

Arun Kumar, superintendent, MGM medical college hospital confirmed about the renovation of the hospital in a big way.

"The state's Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare is going to carry out a complete renovation of the MGM medical college hospital. Multi-storied buildings will be set up in place of building infrastructures stand today, " Kumar said while talking to The Telegraph Online.

Presently, the medical college hospital has 520 beds, but once the renovation plan is complete, there will be 750 beds with state-of-the-art medical facilities.

Unveiling the renovation plan, the superintendent said that except for the seventh-storied PG building set up a couple of years ago, all the remaining buildings will be razed.

Kumar informed that a private agency, Kothari Construction Private Ltd, has begun the soil testing on the hospital premises.

The site of new buildings, number of floors and the estimated cost can only be ascertained once a detail project report (DPR) on the basis of the soil testing is submitted," Kumar pointed out.

He said the renovation work will be done in three phases. In the first phase, OPD, Emergency department and Administrative blocks will be set up, in the second phase Medicine and Surgery blocks and in the third phase Gynecology, Paediatric beside other departmental blocks will be set up.

The hospital superintendent, when asked, told that during a fortnight-long eye treatment program conducted in August, the state health minister, Banna Gupta had visited the hospital. He said during that occasion, he had proposed for the hospital renovation plan and the minister ultimately got a cabinet nod for the proposal.
