When crisis strikes, solidarity wins.

Loyola Alumni Association has decided to help senior citizens of Jamshedpur whose children live in other cities and abroad during emergency situations at a time several states are imposing lockdowns to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The association has formed a 24-member task force to check on elderly parents in case they need medicines or any other help.

Members of the task force had been asked to attend to areas that are close to them.

“We got this idea from a Facebook post. There are lots of people who don’t stay in the city, but their parents do. All of them are senior citizens and most of them are immobile. So we decided to check on them and give them our contact numbers in case of an emergency,” said Rajiv Talwar, one of the members of Loyola Alumni Association.

In the last couple of days, the members have called a number of senior citizens on the request of alumni members who stay abroad.

“We thought it is our duty. We have a member called Manik Ghoshal who stays in Manchester and requested us to check on his 80-year-old mother who stays in Telco. We called her up and left our numbers with her so that she can get in touch if required. For people like Manik it was a great relief,” Talwar added.

Loyola Alumni Association also held their Saturday Free Clinic on the premises of Loyola School to extend services to the poor.
