The supporters of a Left party and some other like-minded people, staged a protest in Ranchi on Saturday afternoon to demand the disqualification and arrest of BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

Bidhuri came in the news after the country knew about his using obscene words, fraught with hatred, that were hurled at a fellow parliamentarian, Danish Ali of the BSP, inside Parliament the other day.

About 40 workers and supporters of the CPI-ML who were also joined by representatives of some other political parties and social organisations assembled at Sainik Market on Ranchi’s main road to stage the protest that lasted over an hour on late afternoon of Saturday.

The protesters carried placards with slogans such as asangsadiya bhasha ke liye Ramesh Bidhuri ko barkhast koro (disqualify Ramesh Bidhuri for using unparliamentary language) and Bha-Ja-Pa sangsad Ramesh Bidhuri ko giraftaar koro (arrest BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri) written on those and also shouted those slogans.

In a statement issued later, the protesters, including senior CPI-ML leaders, demanded, besides disqualifying the BJP MP and his arrest, that “legal action be initiated against Bidhuri for attempting to destabilise communal harmony”.

“Taking no action against an MP who used unparliamentary language inside the Parliament, despite the existence of certain fixed norms about it, is dangerous for democracy,” the statement further said, adding no action against him would tantamount to patronage.

The only punishment the BJP MP deserves is his disqualification as an MP, his subsequent arrest and legal action for hate speech inside Parliament, the statement further said.

All-religion meet

Imarat Shariah, a socio-religious organisation of Muslim Ummah (community)
in Bihar, Jharkhand and
Odisha, will organise an all-religion meet in Ranchi on October 2 to promote communal harmony and camaraderie among followers of different faiths.

“The meeting will be held at Haj House in Ranchi on October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti),” informed Qazi Mufti Anwar Kashmi who heads the Jharkhand branch of the organisation.

Representatives from all other religions will also attend the meeting, he said, adding they would “also invite some of them to address the gathering”.
