Kolhan University archers finished their Khelo India University Games campaign with two gold and a bronze on the concluding day at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
Ranchi University’s Babita Kumari claimed a bronze in the compound division.
Kolhan University stood third in the standings, behind champions Punjab University (four gold, two silver and as many bronze) and runners-up University of Rajasthan (two gold and three bronze).
The mixed recurve pair of Sourav Mukhi and Komalika Bari from Kolhan slotted home the yellow metal, while the women’s outfit comprising Komalika, Basanti Birua and Suman Purty pocketed top slot in the recurve team event. Komalika also went on to claim the women’s recurve individual bronze.
Sourav and Komalika posted a 6-2 win over M.D. University, Haryana, in the finals, while the women team drubbed Sant Garge Baba Amravati University, Maharashtra, with a 6-0 win.
Expressing happiness, Kolhan University vice-chancellor Shukla Mahanty said the archers have won laurels for the university and they feel very proud of their exploits. “We extend congratulations to our archers for their good show,” she added.
Kolhan University team manager R.K. Choudhary said it was a proud moment for the varsity since all the five archers have won gold.
“We feel proud over the performance of our archers. We always knew they would perform to their abilities,” he said over phone from Bhubaneswar.
Choudhary also commended the guidance provided by coaches Sumit Kumar Mishra, Anil Kumar and Vikash Mishra.
A total of 165 men and women archers from 30 universities competed in the five-day games conducted in recurve and compound categories.
