Tata Steel’s civic utility arm is making earnest efforts to spruce up riverbanks in the run-up to Chhath.
Jusco has its focus riveted on eight spots along Subernarekha and Kharkai, namely the main ghat in Sakchi near Mango bridge, Pandey Ghat, Sati Ghat, Domuhani, Bhuiyandih Balughat, Bodhanwala Ghat, Dimna Ghat and Kadma power substation ghat.
“We have deployed around 100 workers for removing idol frames and other leftover puja paraphernalia from the riverbanks. The cleaning operation is expected to be completed at all eight ghats in another three-four days. Manpower is adequate for not just tidying the ghats, but also making other arrangements for Chhath such as erecting streetlight poles and fixing barricades,” said Jusco spokesperson Rajesh Rajan.
Ram Babu Singh, general secretary of Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti that oversees preparations for festivals including Chhath to be celebrated on November 13-14, said the East Singhbhum district bosses would soon convene a meeting.
“Various corporate houses will be given responsibilities for preparing other river ghats so that Chhath devotees can participate in the festivities without hassles,” Singh said.
A joint survey of the district administration and members of the Samiti will be carried out on riverbanks in the first week of November. “Jusco will start barricading work at various ghats, including Sati Ghat in Kadma and Bodhanwala Ghat in Bistupur, for facilitating safe access during the festival,” Singh added.
The authorities are also planning to deploy lifeguards equipped with paddle boats at different points along Subernarekha and Kharkhai. “Danger zones will be demarcated and all ghats barricaded,” said a district PR official.
