The Jugsalai railway overbridge project which was hanging for a long time is all set to complete by the end of the year.
The work for setting up the approach road which had stopped a year ago has been resumed in full swing on Wednesday, leading the officials of the Road Construction Department (RCD) to claim that the construction will continue until the approach road is not finished.
"The work of approach road construction had stopped midway a year ago due to its design issue which has already been sorted out and construction work was resumed. We will complete the approach road construction in the next nine months, " said Ram Villash Sahu, executive engineer, RCD's Jamshedpur divine while talking to The Telegraph Online on Wednesday.
He pointed out the design of the approach road has been revised and its cost has also escalated to Rs 44 crores. The executive engineer said the railway has already constructed the overbridge and after the work of the approach road is completed by December, the Jugsalai railway overbridge will get operational for the public.
Construction of the railway overbridge at Jugsalai level crossing was a contentious issue for the railway, administration, and the residents for the past two decades.
Concerned with frequent congestion and fatal mishaps at the level-crossing, the residents of the densely-populated Jugsalai and adjoining Bagbera localities had set up Sarbadaliya Sangharsh Samiti (SSS) cutting across party line.
Following repeated agitation by the SSS, the railway in the year 2011 had taken the initiative to construct an overbridge in collaboration with the RCD and decided to set up the railway overbridge for Rs 16 crores.
As there was an encroachment issue for both the railway as well as the RCD, the project was delayed by over a decade and the project cost escalated to Rs 44 crore.
