Clouds over Morabadi give the state capital Ranchi an unreal look on Tuesday.

Several parts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, Simdega and Seraikela-Kharsawan experienced overnight heavy showers and a storm with wind speed of up to 70kmph.

Weathermen confirmed it as a Nor'wester and said was triggered by a cyclonic circulation hovering over sub-Himalayan Bengal.

“The cyclonic circulation over sub-Himalayan Bengal extends between 3.1km and 4.5km above mean sea level. This along with another cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh at 2.1km above mean sea level helped in triggering the Nor'wester activity,” said SD Kotal, director of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) Ranchi centre.

Statistics revealed moderate to heavy showers during the past 24 hours.

Simdega with 67mm recorded the highest amount of rainfall in Jharkhand. Hailstorm with hailstones roughly 1.5cm in size was also experienced in Ranchi. The local IMD observatory in Ranchi recorded around 65mm of rain while

Nimdih in Seraikela-Kharsawan district recorded 63mm.

Hazaribagh, and Ghatshila in East Singhbhum district recorded over 50mm of rain each while Chaibasa in

West Singhbhum recorded over 30mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday.

Jamshedpur, Pakur, Godda and several other places recorded over 10mm of rain.

On Friday too reports of light showers, lightning and thunder poured in from several districts including Ramgarh, Bokaro and Gumla.
