Dhanbad: Drone cameras which are nowadays being used for photography during marriage functions have better utility factors for environmental conservation and preservation measures. This has been proved by the Forest Department in Dhanbad which is using a camera to monitor the forest cover as well as various stages of plant development.
The photography and videography carried out by the drone cameras are also helping in better documentation regarding forest growth to be submitted to the Forest Survey of India, which carries inventory in forest and non forest areas and develops a database on forest tree areas.
Giving details in this regard, Vimal Lakra, District Forest Officer of Dhanbad said, “We have procured the lone drone camera last year and used it for monitoring different stages of plant development in various parts of the district including Tundi, Topchanchi and Dhanbad but area planning to use it more coordinated way during this year.”
“Though, we lack the trained technicians for operating the camera due to lack of manpower we are using the existing staff itself by providing them training etc,” he said.
“After plantation its regular monitoring is necessary for ensuring its steady growth for at least three years and thus the drone cameras step in,” said Lakra.
“Besides photography and videography proper documentation is also essential for report submission to different agencies like Forest Survey of India.” elaborated Lakra.
