Dhanbad: Over 100 employees of LIC of India participated in a conclave of their union, Bima Karmchari Sangh, Hazaribagh division at the Industries and Commerce Hall at Joraphatak Road. During the conclave they expressed their ire against the government’s decision to implement the IPO of LIC of India.
The protest was led by Sumit Kumar Sinha, Joint Secretary of the Hazaribagh division. “The LIC IPO will certainly be a big blow to the very concept of Selfreliant India that the government has been constantly emphasizing upon” said Sinha.
“An institution which does not create profit for itself and works with a single motto of serving the nation and its huge clientele base can only be branded as a mutually benefitting society with the government acting as a trustee,” said Jagdish Chandra Mittal General Secretary of the Hazaribagh division of the union.
“The LIC IPO will undermine the very objectives of its creation,” said Mittal.
Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhary, chief speaker of the conclave said, “Capital is necessary but capitalism is not required for capital creation.”
He further said, “Through IPO an attempt is being made to serve the interest of the capitalist forces by carrying out disinvestment of LIC of India through the route of IPO which is not good for the Indian democracy.”
Former Nirsa MLA, Arup Chatterjee, said, “If a PSU is making loss, then disinvestment seems logical to some extent but by bringing the IPO of an organization like LIC of India which supports other organizations is beyond any comprehension. This is not in the interest of the nation.”
