Dhanbad: Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (BBMKU) has decided to defer all its examination till January 15 in view of the latest Covid guidelines issued by the state government. The decision was taken at a meeting that took place at the university office at Babudih in Dhanbad.

The university has decided to issue a fresh exam schedule post January 15.

The meeting conducted under held under the chairmanship of Kamal John Lakra, North Chhotanagpur Commissioner cum in-charge vice chancellor (VC) of BBMKU, was attended by Suman Kumar Burnwal, examination controller and Debjani Biswas, Dean of Student Welfare and other deans.

Talking to the media, Burnwal said, “We have decided to postpone all offline exams, including the PG semester 2 and UG semester 2 exams that were scheduled from January 6. The PhD entrance examination scheduled on January 9 has also been deferred.”

“We will take a decision with regard to examination after January 15 in the light of a new set of guidelines, if any,” said Burnwal.

Notably around 26 thousand students were to appear for the scheduled examinations.

The university has decided to close the ongoing admission to PG courses.

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand State Table Tennis Association on Tuesday announced an 11-member (boy and girl) squad for the National Championship (for under-11, 13 and 15 age groups). Indore will be hosting the sporting event from January 11 to 19.

The squad comprising a maximum 10 paddlers (5 each) from East Singhbhum and Garhwa, has a sole representative from Hazaribagh.

East Singhbhum players included in the state squad are Archita Dey (under-13 & 15 girls), Aadya Chauhan (under 13 & 15 girls), Swastika Sukla (under-13 girls), Soumil Mahato (under- 13 & 15 boys) and Arunabh Saha (under-13 boys) while the paddlers from Garhwa are Anjali Kumar (under 13 & 15 girls), Harshit Kumar Pandey (under-13 boys), Nitish Kumar Mehta (under-15 boys), Anil Kumar Mehta (under-15 boys) and Animesh Kumar Pandey (under-15 boys).

Hazaribagh's Mukund Badal has made it to the under-13 boy's age section.

According to state table tennis association secretary Jay Kumar Sinha, all matches at the national tournament will be played under strict Covid-19 protocol. All players and officials are to undergo the mandatory Covid RT PCR test and must carry their negative report.

East Singhbhum District Table Tennis Association (ESDTTA) secretary Ujjal Chatterjee said, “I am very optimistic about a good show by the entire squad.”

The Archery Association of India has scheduled the 2nd NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament to be hosted at Seraikela-Kharswan in Jharkhand. The event will be hosted from February 20 to 28.

Bokaro police arrests six history-sheeters

Dhanbad: Bokaro police arrested six history-sheeters including five engaged in running an extortion racket in the name of New Members People’s Morcha (NSPM). They have been collecting levies from traders, industrialists, miners, and transporters.

Police while arresting them seized arms and ammunition including, semi-automatic pistol, magazine with cartridges besides bike and three mobile phones.

Talking to media at the Bokaro Police office, Chandan Jha, Bokaro SP said, “Firing took place at Jarangih railway area of CCL on December 27 during which the eight to nine armed criminals assaulted some persons at the siding and left a poster claiming that their organization is working for the downtrodden.”

An FIR has been registered in this regard at Bokaro Thermal Police station following which Bokaro police constituted an SIT under the leadership of Satish Chandra Jha, Bermo Sub Divisional Police Officer, and began investigating the incident. Following which they conducted raids at various places.

“We first arrested Vakil Ansari, a noted criminal of Uttar Pradesh on the basis of tip off from Agardih area of Chandrapura in Bokaro but he denied his involvement in the incident, however gave some clue about a few criminals involved in incident of firing” elaborated Jha.

“We arrested the local kingpin of gang, Birbal Singh alias Nikhil alias Katappa and on his indication one of our team arrested three more criminals, Banti Sao, Sanjay Sao and Ajmat Ansari and while second team arrested fifth member of the gang, Deepak Kumar Mahto” further said Jha.

Five arrested criminals have accepted their involvement in the incident and also divulged details of their modus operandi.
