South Korean pistol shooter Kim Yeji, who shot to global stardom at the Paris 2024 Olympics for her cool-as-ice performance, has hit a new target, bull’s eye.

The internet’s favourite markswoman from the Olympics has landed her first acting gig, playing an assassin – duh, what else – in the upcoming series ‘Crush’, British newspaper The Guardian reports.

Yeji, whose steely focus and futuristic eyewear made her an online sensation, will take on the role of a killer in this short-form spinoff series, part of the ‘Asia’ film project. Alongside Indian actress and influencer Anushka Sen, Yeji’s transformation into a killer duo promises to be as thrilling as her performance on the shooting range.

Now, if you’ve been following the buzz since her Olympic silver medal in the 10m air pistol, this casting probably feels like destiny. The Telegraph Online saw this coming long before the producers did. We had predicted in our coverage of Paris 2024 that Yeji would be perfect a character for a spy thriller, even jokingly calling dibs on copyright. Check the link below

Fast forward a few months, and here we are — an assassin role in the bag for Yeji, and us drafting up our copyright paperwork with a smile.

Kim’s Olympic fame was never just about the medals. It was her calm demeanour, hand-in-pocket swagger, and those cyberpunk shooting glasses that sparked the internet’s collective obsession.

Kim’s transformation from silver medallist to silver screen assassin seems inevitable. After all, who wouldn’t want to cast someone who pulls off world-record performances with the same ease as a K-drama hero breezing through a climactic duel?

And let’s be honest — her sci-fi-worthy glasses, paired with a dangling stuffed elephant from her pocket, were already practically screaming “I’m ready for my close-up.”

Celebrities like Elon Musk jumped on the bandwagon, declaring that Yeji should be cast in an action movie — "no acting required!" Evidently, the casting directors were listening.

Since her viral Olympic run, Yeji has not only attracted millions of online fans but also signed with a South Korean talent agency and featured in a Louis Vuitton magazine spread. But it’s her assassin debut in ‘Crush’ that has her fans buzzing again. After all, who better to play a silent, sharp-shooting killer than someone who’s already proved she can hit her mark with unnerving precision?

And while we couldn’t be prouder to see our prediction come to life, we’ll be waiting for our cut of the royalties with a wink. After all, when you’ve got a star this cool and a plot this perfect, it’s hard not to feel like you saw it all coming.

And we can’t stop grinning thinking of what if the other internet-sensation shooter, Turkey’s Yusuf ‘One Hand In Pocket’ Dikec, follows suit. Producers, do not forget you read it here on The Telegraph Online.
