Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Singh, who initiated the process of providing assistance to the three archers within three days of the instruction of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, expressed satisfaction and wished for a bright future for the three players whose parents have raised the issue of lack of equipment affecting their practice.

District sports officer Santosh Kumar on the other hand advised all the three beneficiaries to continue the practice and expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and people’s representative of the district for the initiative.

Santosh Kumar Das, a small grocery shop owner of Patherdih and the father of Jyoti Kumari and Madhu Kumari said, “I am hugely delighted with the aid as my daughters, who have won more than 40 medals at the district level and state level meet, were deprived of practice since long due to lack of equipment.”

“The most significant achievement for them was in Inter-School National Archery Championship held in 2019 at Sangrur, Punjab where both Madhu and Jyoti won the bronze medal in Junior and subcategories respectively,” further said Das.

I purchased two old bows at a cumulative price of Rs 1.10 lakh including one of Rs 45 thousand and another of 65 thousand in 2019 by saving my hard-earned money but one of the bows broke last year while the other is also not working properly affecting their practice” said Das and added that since his income has been badly affected during the pandemic he is not being able to help his daughters..

“Jharia MLA, Purnima Singh who came to know about our daughter’s raised the issue before the government and we received the fund today for purchasing the bows and arrows,” said Das.
