Jharkhand entered into a week-long lockdown at 6 am on Thursday, which will be in force till 6 am on April 29 following state government's announcement in the wake of spiralling covid-19 situation in the state.

Talking about the lockdown, termed as Swastha Suraksha Saptha (health safety week), Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan said that the administration will be forced to slap FIRs against anyone and everyone who will be found violating the norms.

On ensuring uninterrupted supply of essentials for the public, he said, "We have rolled out slew of phone numbers of  shops and other such places from where people can easily get their requirements delivered at their doorsteps. We have also appealed business chamber to cooperate with  the lockdown rules."

All shops except for those selling essential commodities, remained closed in Jamshedpur on the first day of lockdown on Thursday, which is being observed as Health Safety Week.

The East Singhbhum district administration has also started a central control room due to the sudden spike in Covid positive cases. The control room has 10 phone lines meant for receiving and relaying information related to latest status of vacant beds in Covid hospitals across the district.
