C. P. Radhakrishnan, a BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, has been named the new governor of Jharkhand.
He will replace the incumbent governor Ramesh Bais who will now shift to Mumbai for taking over as the new governor of Maharashtra, informed a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau on Sunday morning.
Bais, in turn, will replace Bhagat Singh Koshiyari in Mumbai who resigned as the governor of Maharastra.
According to the information available, Radhakrishnan was twice elected to Lok Sabha from the Coimbatore constituency in 1998 and 1999 but was unsuccessful in the next three elections. He also served as the chairman of the All India Coir Board in the past and was in charge of the BJP’s Kerala state unit during the Assembly elections in 2021.
Former Tripura governor Bais, on the other hand, became the governor of Jharkhand in July 2021. He came in the news in August last year after it became public that the Election Commission (EC) sent to him, in a sealed cover, its views on the disqualification issue of Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren that Bais had sought earlier.
It was widely rumoured that Soren would be disqualified as an MLA for violating poll norms for allegedly allotting a mining lease to himself while in office.
While a special session of the state Assembly was hurriedly called following Soren’s request and he proved his majority on the floor of the House, governor Bais did not disclose the contents of the EC’s letter to date.
