On Wednesday, Bokaro recorded the season’s lowest minimum reading on with the mercury plummeting three notches below normal to 8.6 °C.

Several other districts in central Jharkhand, including Ramgarh, recorded similar temperatures, making it the coldest day of the season. The local IMD observatory in Ramgarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8.0 °C.

Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4°C while Jamshedpur was a bit warmer at 12 °C.

Godda, Deoghar and several other places in the Santhal Pargana region also experienced the coldest day on Wednesday with the local IMD observatories recording around 9.6 °C.

Kanke, located on the outskirts of the state capital, experienced bone-numbing cold at around 8°C.

Weathermen said the dominating north-westerly wind was causing the night temperature to plummet. Head of Ranchi Met Centre Abhishek Anand agreed that a sub-10 chill was prevailing in several districts of Jharkhand on Wednesday.

However, he maintained that there wouldn’t be much fluctuation in the minimum temperature reading in the next 48 hours.

With a dip in temperatures, early morning fog was also witnessed at several places across Jharkhand on Wednesday, including Jamshedpur. The early morning fog reduced surface visibility affecting traffic at several places.

IMD's Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of shallow to moderate fog and mist in the morning for the next two days. Dry weather conditions will prevail over Jharkhand for the next few days.
