Candidates toiled hard in padyatras (foot march) and meetings on the penultimate day of campaigning on Monday for Ichagarh Assembly seat in the neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district, around 30km north-west of Jamshedpur.

In the constituency, which is witnessing a four-cornered fight among BJP sitting MLA Sadhu Charan Mahato, JMM’s Sabita Mahato, Ajsu’s Hare Lal Mahato and Independent Arvind Kumar Singh, campaigning is set to conclude at 3pm on Tuesday.

Sabita Mahato, 45, along with her daughter Sneha, 19, held separate padyatras to reach out to the maximum number of people before the end campaigning.

“Hum log ka sarkar garibon ko Rs 3 lakh ghar banane ke liye dega aur betiyo ko muft siksha jab tak who padhna chahe. Hamari party aap ko chalegi nahin. Aap jante hain Sudhirji ne kya kiya tha aap ke liye (Our government will give Rs 3 lakh to every poor person for construction of houses. Our government will provide free education to girls till they continue education. Our party will not cheat you as the BJP has. You all know what Sudhirji has done for this constituency),” Sabita told a middle-aged person in Ichagarh block during her padyatra.

Sabita’s husband and former Jharkhand deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahato had represented Ichagarh in 1990 and 2005. He died in January 2014 after a massive heart attack.

Sabita’s daughter Sneha held a seperate padyatra at Nimdih.

Sitting MLA Sadhu Charan Mahato on Monday took out a padyatra in Khukru haat in Chandil block.

Vikas ke liye vote BJP ko dijiye, mere karyakal main 450km road bana hai, 500 pukur banaya gaya aur 175 gaon main bijli aaya hai. (Vote for the BJP for development. In my tenure, I have constructed 450km of roads, 500 ponds and provided electricity in 175 villages),” said Sadhu Charan told villagers.

Ajsu’s Hare Lal Mahato on Monday conducted a foot march in Chilgu panchayat of Chandil. He has planned a massive bike rally in different blocks of Ichagarh on Tuesday.

“Aap log jante ke kisne ap ke liye kya kiya. Main chuna gaya to is kshetra main ek naya hospital, mahila college, degree college and band kiye gaye school ko khulwana mera prathmikta hoga (You all know who has done what. If I am elected, my priority will be to open a modern hospital, a women’s college, a degree college and reopen closed schools,” he said.

Independent candidate and three-time MLA Arvind Singh addressed village meetings at Nimdih and Kapali.

“Mujhe apne bare main bolne ki zarurat nahin. Chunav haar kar bhi aap ke saath tha aur aage bhi rahunga (I do not need to tell much about myself. Even after losing election I was with you and will continue to be with you in future),” Arvind said.
