A local resident donates blood on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary at Katras More Jharia, Dhanbad Shabbir Hussain

Jharia residents celebrated the 125th anniversary on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in unique way by donating blood and sending the message to concerned authorities and local people’s representative’s, Hum tumhen khoon denge tum hame pradushan se azadi do,demanding effective steps to control pollution in coal town.

The prorgramme organised at Katras More Jharia under the banner of social organization, Youth Concept, registered the donation of altogether 53 units of blood.

Talking to The Telegraph Online on Sunday, Akhlaque Ahmad, a Jharia based special educator cum speech therapist, who is also the founder of Youth Concept, said, “ We have been spreading awareness among the local residents about ill effects of pollution among the local residents through various programmes and raising the issue before the local people’s representatives and officials also since long and programme held today was also in the same series.”

On December 31 last year we also drew attention of the authorities and people’s representatives, including MP and MLAs towards the glaring state of affairs of pollution by organizing a post card campaign during which school students sent the postcard’s to MP and MLAs of Dhanbad bearing messages like, Sansad dada hamari awaz uthaiye, prdushan se mukti dilaiye; vidhayak aunty hame pradushan se bachaiye”

People from different sections of society including social workers, house makers, professionals participated in blood donation drive today and all of them were bearing the placards bearing the message, hum tumhen khoon denge tum hame pradushan se azadi do.

“We have also sent messages on twitter to Prime Minister, @PMOIndia; Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, @JharkhandCMO; Dhanbad MP PN Singh, @PNSinghdhanbad and Jharia MLA, Purnima Singh informing them about the blood donation being organized on the occasion, Netaji Subhash Bose’s 125th birth anniversary and bearing the same message, hum tumhen khoon denge tum hame pradushan se azadi do.” Said Ahmad.

“When the blood banks of Dhanbad went dry last year and several occasions earlier the district administration authorities and people’s representatives appealed to the people to donate blood to save life and Jharia residents participated in drive in with full enthusiasm to replenish the stock of blood banks and now it’s our turn to demand relief from pollution by donating blood on ourselves” elaborated Ahmad.

Pinku Chandravanshi, a social worker , who participated in the blood donation drive today, said “Jharia has been ranked several times among the worst polluted towns of the country in several surveys but the administration and people’s representative have failed to take any concrete measure to control pollution compelling us to draw their attention to problem plaguing us.”
