Over 100 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits were donated to East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla in a short function keeping the Covid guidelines in view, by Lions District 332 A on Friday.
Jamshedpur-based past district governors of Lions Clubs International Anand Choudhary, Nalini Mukherjee, Kanchan Singh, Rajnish Kumar, and Archnan Verma, who came all the way from Ranchi, handed the kits over to the DC with assurance for more when needed.
Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF), the world’s biggest funding agency, has extended a helping hand in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic across the globe, by providing emergency grant worth 10,000 dollars to any Lions District where positive cases have risen beyond 100.
Sanjiv Poddar, district governor of Lions District 322 A, which comprises 24 revenue districts of Jharkhand and 7 revenue districts of Bihar, had approached LCIF for help and received the grant consequently.
“The requirement was assessed in consultation with principal health secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni, and it was decided to mutually provide 800 PPE kits across the Lions district to support coronavirus warriors,” said Lion Rajnish Kumar, who co-ordinated with the state government and district administration while providing the kits.
According to him, Lions has so far given 70 PPE kits to Koderma, 50 each to Garhwa, Daltonganj, Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Dhanbad, and 35 to Ramgarh.
Fifty kits to West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts will be provided soon.
