Steel city boy aces CAT, gateway to IIMs

Nitish is one of the 11 students in India to have scored 100 percentile with a overall scaled score of 244.88

The Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry to IIMs had a 100 percentile scorer from the steel city.

Nitish Kumar (22), currently a BTech student of EEE (electrical and electronics engineering) at Institute of Engineering and Management, Calcutta, has scored 100 percentile in the exam. Nitish is one of the 11 students in India to have scored 100 percentile with a overall scaled score of 244.88.

The website of IIM-Calcutta stated all 11 candidates were male and had engineering and technology backgrounds.

Nitish, a resident of Bagbera Colony, aims to pursue finance either from IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta.

Nitish passed his CBSE Class X from St Mary’s English High School, Bistupur, in 2012 and completed Class XII from DAV Public School.

On whether Nitish knew he would perform so well, he said, “I had scored above 99 in mock tests. Therefore, I was expecting this kind of a result. I will complete my BTech in April and head to IIM.”

Nitish’s father Shambhu Mishra is a Tata Steel employee while mother Madhu Mishra is a housewife.

Tata Steel employee Rudril Pandey and a resident of Sonari scored 99.98 percentile. Anwesha Banerjee, a former student of Jadavpur University scored 99.8 percentile.

“I am expecting a call from IIM-Ahmedabad and would want to pursue finance. I have got one-and-a-half years experience working at the G Blast Furnace department of Tata Steel,” said Pandey, who originally hails from Bhopal.

In the steel city, 150 CAT aspirants made the cut out of over 1,500 examinees.

The exam was conducted on November 25.

“The top of the list is occupied by boys, but overall girls have performed well. The city students have fared very well, especially Nitish,” said Sandeep Kumar, one of the faculty members of Career Launcher, an MBA coaching institute in Bistupur.

In Ranchi, Anurag Singh Tomar, the son of state president of Jharkhand Police Association Yogendra Singh, qualified CAT with 99.86 percentile.

Tomar is a pursuing his technical education at IIT, Roorkee.
