All the constituent parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in Jharkhand have decided to stage sit-ins across the state on Tuesday, demanding the dismissal of the Manipur government and imposition of the President’s rule in the strife-torn state.
The decision was taken at a meeting, attended by representatives of all the INDIA constituents, at Congress Bhavan in Ranchi on Sunday.
“It was resolved that all the constituents of the INDIA will jointly stage a dharna in front of Raj Bhavan in Ranchi as well as near collectorates at all the district headquarters of the state on August 1 to protest against the lackadaisical attitude of the Union government towards solving the crisis in Manipur,” state Congress president Rajesh Thakur said after the meeting that he had presided over.
The way the ethnic violence has been allowed to continue in Manipur for about three months now can not be tolerated anymore, he further said, adding the state government had turned into a mute spectator there.
“We will protest against the inhuman treatment meted out to the tribal women there and the inaction of the state government. We will also submit a memorandum addressed to the President demanding dismissal of the Manipur government and imposition of the President’s rule in the state,” Thakur said.
He added: “The so-called double-engine government was reduced to a mockery in that state and the rule of law must be established there without further delay.”
State minister and Congress legislative party leader Alamgir Alam said: “The video of inhuman torture of Manipuri women that had surfaced recently put the nation to shame.
“It was bizarre that the Union government also remained silent when a state continued to burn.”
“We were not allowed to speak at Parliament when we demanded a detailed discussion on the Manipur crisis, so we will now fight it out alongside the people on the streets,” said JMM MP Vijay Hansdak, who attended the meeting.
JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey said all the constituent parties would jointly sit on dharnas in the districts as well.
“The entire country is worried by what is happening in Manipur,” said JDU state president and Rajya Sabha MP Khiru Mahto, who also attended the meeting, assuring their party members would join members of other INDIA constituents during the protest across the state.
The representatives of some other parties such as the Left parties, Aam Admi Party, Marxist Coordination Committee and Trinamul Congress who attended the
meeting on Sunday also extended their support and assured to participate in the dharnas across the state on Tuesday.
