The slow progress of the under-construction multi-storey Jharkhand Bhavan in Delhi has earned flak from chief minister Hemant Soren.

Soren, who inspected the seven-storey building on Monday evening, expressed displeasure not only over the delay in completion but also flaws in design elements and the process for appointment of consultants.

Significantly, the Jharkhand Bhavan coming up on 70 decimal of land at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore is being claimed to be a zero energy five star Green Building (eco-friendly) had its foundation stone laid in 2016 with a two-year deadline but even after more than six years it is yet to be completed.

A statement issued by the chief minister’s secretariat on Tuesday evening said that Soren inspected all seven floors, especially the conference hall, dining hall, chief minister’s room, guest room, governor’s suite and other places.

Thereafter a review meeting was held with officials of the building construction department, private consultants and project implementing agencies and discussed several issues, including the budget of the building.

“The chief minister was not satisfied and directed the department to submit a probe report on the role of responsible officers and consultants regarding the construction of the Jharkhand building within 15 days. Officers were directed to make necessary changes for the quality, safety and convenience of the guests in the building,” the statement read.

Significantly, Jharkhand Bhavan construction work got delayed due to stoppage of work and technical challenges during the Covid period.

“There should be an effort so that the quality of the construction work of Jharkhand Bhavan should establish its identity. If any kind of irregularity comes to the fore in the Jharkhand building construction work, then the responsible persons will not be spared,” the statement further read.
