A well-marked low-pressure area over north-west Bay of Bengal coupled with an associated cyclonic circulation will result in heavy rain at isolated places over southern and western Jharkhand during the next 24 hours, weathermen predicted on Wednesday.
"The cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6km above the mean sea level," said SD Kotal, the director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre after today's chart analysis and satellite readings.
After a lingering spell of heat and humidity that had pushed up the discomfort index in most districts of Jharkhand, the low pressure brought rain relief by triggering moderate to heavy showers in southern and eastern Jharkhand during the past 24 hours.
Statistics revealed that Kolebira in Simdega district recorded the highest rainfall of around 130mm during the past 24 hours.
Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas also recorded heavy showers of around 70 mm.
Ramgarh, Ghatshila in East Singhbhum, Putki in Dhanbad, Chas in Bokaro, Ranchi, Daltonganj, Chaibasa in West Singhbhum, Gumla, Dhanbad , Hazaribagh, Godda and Deoghar also recorded light to moderate rain.
The Ranchi Meteorological Centre also issued alert of thunderstorm and lightning in several districts of Jharkhand on August 7 and August 8.
Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas witnessed intermittent rains on Wednesday.
The weather in Jharkhand has been hot and humid during the day for the past several days.
The monsoon rain deficit on Wednesday stood at 13 per cent.
Against the norm of 576.6 mm, Jharkhand has so far received 504.1 mm of rain, revealed Met data.
