Does the mention of flavourful and spicy Goan food make your mouth water? The Boulevard Hotel in Bistupur will ensure your craving is taken care of.
From May 31 to June 30, The Boulevard Hotel will be organising the Goan Food Festival at its Chopsticks restaurant to enable steel city residents savour the appetising dishes from the land of sun-kissed beaches, coconut palms and a rich Portuguese culture.
A short a la carte with about 10 delicacies have been prepared for food lovers.
On the menu is mutton xacuti — meat cooked in thick coconut gravy and spices — and chicken vindaloo — a fiery and tangy chicken curry with a tomato and tamarind gravy.
The name vindaloo is derived from the Portuguese term for garlic and wine (vinho e alho or vinha d'alhos) marinade. Usually, the dish is prepared with pork, but people have started experimenting with chicken as well.
Guests can also enjoy Goan pulao with a hint of coconut flavour, the classic Goan prawn curry and the Goan style lady finger dish called Bhendi Mouli, prepared with coconut juice and mustard seeds. Fish lovers can also check out Pomfret reshag in which the fish is stuffed with a mix of pungent and sweet spices and shallow fried.
J.S. Anand, manager of The Boulevard Hotel, said any Goanese dish uses a lot of kokum, a fruit available in the western ghats and used in the recipes of nearby states.
“We have kept the a la carte short and precise keeping in mind the likes of the people in Jamshedpur.
Goan food comprises a lot of local spices too and we have tried to incorporate them as well,” Anand said.
He said rice, seafood, coconut, vegetables, meat, pork and local spices are some of the main ingredients of Goan cuisine.
The pocket pinch for two will be between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000.
