For the first time inmates of Ghaghidih Central Jail will soak in Holi revelry.
From playing with gulal to enjoying a grand feast, jail authorities want to make this Holi a memorable day for all 1,850 plus jail inmates.
“We are making all the necessary arrangements for Holi so that all the prisoners and undertrials, who are away from their families, feel at home,” said jail superintendent Satyendra Chaudhury.
The jail superintendent also said Holika Dahan would be observed on the eve of Holi on Wednesday evening. “Holika Dahan will be observed by officials of the jail administration on the jail premises. All the other rituals will be celebrated inside the prison,” said Chaudhury.
The jail administration has also purchased adequate amount of gulal in different colours. “Besides, there will be special food arrangements on Holi (Thursday). All the inmates will be served with mutton curry and for vegetarians there will be alternative delicacies and sweets,” said central jail superintendent, adding pua, a sweet dish popular in Holi, would also be served to the inmates.
There will also be a musical programme for which the jail administration will provide musical instruments to the inmates. “Earlier there would be no celebrations during festivals. This year Holi will indeed be memorable for all of us,” said an official.
