Residents of apartments along NH-33 at Baliguma are worried the area will soon turn into a garbage dump as, of late, the local civic authority has been irregular in clearing domestic waste that is routinely dumped at designated bins outside the housing complexes.

“Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) is ignoring our colonies. Household waste collected by housekeeping staff and dumped outside the gate has not been cleared for three weeks now. The situation is going to get aggravated if immediate steps are not taken to clean up the area,” pointed out R.K. Singh, owner of flat at Ashiana Sun City.

There were similar complaints from residents of Vaastu Bihar, another cluster of apartments at Baliguma, some 5km from Dimna Chowk at Mango. Ashiana Sun City and neighbouring Vaastu Vihar has, in all, over 300 flats.

A resident of Vaastu Vihar, requesting anonymity, said mounds of stinking garbage nearby are posing a serious health risk. “The dustbins provided by MNAC have not been cleared for days. It creates problems for commuters as well as residents of the complex,” he pointed out.

MNAC official Mukesh Kumar, who looks after the area, refuted residents’ claims. He said dustbins were cleaned at least twice a week. The MNAC command area comprises 10 wards from Pardih to Baliguma with over 3 lakh residents.

“The garbage bins are cleared by contractual workers twice a week. But we will look into the complaints and get the dustbins and the area cleaned,” he said.

Sources said MNAC had only two hydraulic dumpers that were finding it difficult to dispose of waste from around 200 garbage bins across Mango.

“In the absence of adequate number of these contraptions (placers), MNAC is finding it difficult to collect and disposing of garbage from various localities under its jurisdiction,” said a civic body official.
