Police nabbed four persons in an abduction bid over non-payment of a friendly loan by a railway employee in East Singhbhum district on Monday night.

Along with the moneylender, Rajiv Kumar, his three associates Vikash Kumar, Saurabh Dayal and Satyam Prakash, also part of the abduction bid, were arrested and subsequently sent to the Seraikela divisional jail on Tuesday.

The police have also seized a car, which the accused had used in the abduction.

According to police sources, the four arrested are all residents of Nalanda district of Bihar like Sone Lal, the victim. They wanted to take the victim to Calcutta with an ulterior motive, which is yet to unfold, police said.

In this connection, the police have registered a case of abduction with the RIT police station in Adityapur against the four on the basis of an FIR lodged by Amrita Lal, wife of Sone Lal.

RIT police station OC Srinivash Kumar said that it was an abortive attempt of abduction of the railway employee over a monetary dispute between the accused and the victim.

"Sone Lal who is also originally a resident of Nalanda district had taken Rs 3 lakh as a friendly loan from Rajiv Kumar a few years ago but did not pay it back. As a result, Rajiv and his three friends swooped over to Sone Lal's residence in RIT thana area and forced him to sit in the car they had travelled in from Nalanda district on Monday. As the four were forcing the victim to sit in the car, his wife Amrita protested but they took Sone Lal alone," said the OC.

Kumar said soon after seeing her husband being taken away, Amrita contacted the RIT thana and informed the police about the incident.

"Receiving the information and also the car's registration number, we informed our East Singhbhum counterpart. As the informant had tipped off about the abductors' plan to take the victim to Calcutta, the East Singhbhum police put focus on covering the NH-33 and alerted all the police stations that fall under the route from Jamshedpur to Calcutta. The car was finally detected at Ghatshila and intercepted. Subsequent statements made by the four accused and also the victim prove that it was an abduction bid, and hence the East Singhbhum police nabbed the four and handed them over to the RIT thana late on Monday night," the RIT thana OC told The Telegraph Online.

The OC said the four were interrogated thoroughly, but they did not divulge anything as to why they were taking the victim to Calcutta.

The four accused, who were in the age-group of 30 to 35 years, were produced before a judicial magistrate in the afternoon and subsequently sent to jail.
