Five members of a family from Ramgarh including two women and men and a boy were killed in an accident that took place near the Hind Hotel of Govindpur Police station area of Dhanbad about 15 km from the district headquarters on National Highway 20.
The incident happened at around 6.30 am when the car moving at a high speed from Ramgarh towards Asansol skid off the road and fell 100 metre down in a gorge due to which Shakil Khan, a resident of Ramgarh who works at Ghato colliery of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in Ramgarh, his wife Rabiun, son Wasim Khan, daughter in law Firdaus and grandson Chiku died.
Local residents who were witness to the accident informed Govindpur Police after which a team led by officer in charge Umesh Prasad Singh reached the site and somehow extricated the dead bodies from the disfigured car.
Notably, all five were heading towards Asansol to participate in a marriage ceremony scheduled on Tuesday in Asansol when fatality struck.
Talking to the media at the site, a cop said, “We have sent the dead bodies for postmortem at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College and Hospital. The family members of the deceased in Ramgarh will be reaching Dhanbad soon after which post mortem will be carried out. The deceased have been identified through Aadhar Cards and other documents found from the site.”
Police sources however assumed the accident took place due to speed negligence as the car fell down from the road without touching the railing.
