Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) has embarked on a beautification drive of roads, squares and parks of the district.
On Monday, the beautification initiative was started with prayers and a small inaugural event from Indira Chowk on the Jharia Sindri Road about 11km from Dhanbad, Gandhi Chowk in the heart of the town near the City Centre Chowk, HIG Colony Park by Dhanbad mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal along with Dhanbad municipal commissioner Chandramohan Kashyap and others.
The foundation stone for the construction of a new office building of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation at Nawadih and an LED installation project at Gandhi Chowk in Putki was laid.
Mayor Agarwal said: “Proper lighting arrangements at all the squares of the district besides widening of roads by removing encroachments near the squares to allow hassle-free movement of vehicles and plantation of trees would be carried out as part of the square beautification work.”
“The work at the squares is being carried out as part of our comprehensive beautification work of all the squares and important roads falling under the jurisdiction of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation,” said Agarwal.
He added: “We have carried out the beautification work of Luby Circular Road at the heart of the town earlier this year at a cost of Rs 1.8 crore. According to the plan, installation of concrete seats for sitting and green patches on both sides of the road, water connections for planting trees, busts of renowned personalities such as educationist and freedom fighter late Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, founder of Brahmo Samaj Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Maithali poet and Sankrit writer Vidyapati and founder director of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar had been carried out.”
“Our aim behind the beautification of the roads, squares, parks, ponds is to develop the aesthetics of the town and give a green look to the town. Also to create places where people can relax with their families during leisure, especially in the morning and evening,” said Agarwal.
Bekar Bandh pond beside the Luby Circular Road, which was lying in a bad shape has been beautified at a cost of Rs 7.82 crore, by the DMC. A laser fountain, sewage-treatment plant, a children play arena and elevation of boundaries has been done.
