District collectorate sealed after DTO, 3 others test Covid positive

The East Singhbhum district collectorate and the district transport office in Sakchi were sealed after the district transport officer and three others in his office tested positive on Saturday.

The district transport office is located within the campus of the district collectorate. Also, entry of visitors was restricted at the senior SP’s office which is also located within the premises of the district collectorate.

All three offices were sanitised. Sources said the district collectorate would remain closed for the next three days. A drop box was kept near the entry gate for the convenience of those coming to the deputy commissioner's office with letters, appeals or complaints.

ADM (law & order) Nand Kishore Lal said, “Sanitisation work has begun at the district collectorate campus. No one will be allowed to enter the campus for three days. The health department has started contact tracing. They have also started collecting samples of all the DTO office staff for Covid-19 test," he said.

Sources said district transport officer (DTO) Rajiv Ranjan and three others in in his office who have tested positive have been admitted to Tata Main Hospital.

Sources added that Kumar was present when the new deputy commissioner, Suraj Kumar, took charge on Wednesday.

From Saturday, the district administration launched a public awareness drive by asking residents of various localities over public address system to wear masks and follow social distancing norms.

The administration is also involving Tata Steel utilities firm, Jusco, in the awareness campaign.

Covid-19 positive cases is East Singhbhum district touched 774 on Saturday afternoon, the highest among all districts in Jharkhand.
