Jharkhand's political situation and alleged “disruptive attempt of the BJP allies” came up during the discussion on political resolution at the 23rd congress of the CPM in Kannur, Kerala, on Thursday.

“As the country is facing challenges from capitalist and fascist forces and the so-called ‘Hindutva’ forces and with the RSS threatening the secular nature of the nation, similar challenges are being faced in Jharkhand too wherein the BJP and its ally the AJSU are trying to disturb an elected government (JMM-led UPA government which came to power in December 2019),” said Jharkhand CPM general secretary Prakash Viplav during the discussion.

The congress of the CPM began in Kannur on Wednesday and will continue till April 10.

Speaking on behalf of the Jharkhand delegation on the political proposal presented by the party general secretary on the second day of the party congress, Prakash Viplav said: “The Left parties played a crucial role in removing the BJP from power in 2019 which had incited incidents of mob lynching, looting of tribal land in the name of land bank and the state witnessed unprecedented starvation death, employment crisis, poor scenario of education due to merger of schools, poor health and deteriorating law and order situation,”

The CPM leader accused the BJP and its ally the AJSU, who were defeated in the polls, of engaging in destabilising the UPA government in Jharkhand.

“During the previous Assembly sessions soon after the Covid pandemic last year and even in this year’s budget session, we have seen the main Opposition party BJP raising communal issues and disruptive issues and indulging in religious rhetoric instead of discussion on burning issues,” alleged Viplav.

BJP had tried to disrupt the winter session of the Assembly last year over the issues of allotment of a room for namaz in the Assembly premises.

“It was shameful to see BJP MLAs shouting religious slogans every now and then, even inside the Jharkhand Assembly. Even now they are raising issues to divide the tribals over the issue of domicile and language. While it was the previous BJP government that had fixed the domicile policy which was protested by the locals,” said Viplav.

The CPM leader also alerted the Hemant Soren-led JMM UPA alliance on delay in fulfilling some of its promises made in the manifesto.

“The present Hemant Soren-led government does not seem to be moving in the direction to fulfil promises made to the people. It had announced withdrawal of sedition cases lodged against tribals by the previous BJP government which was a welcome gesture.

“The passing of the mob lynching Act was also much needed but it is yet to return the lands to the raiyats (original land owners). It is also delaying in announcing a domicile policy for filling up government vacancies and there is no clear cut policy to deal with unemployment problem in Jharkhand,” said Viplav, while informing that CPM Jharkhand unit is indulging in raising people-centric issues at the grassroots level.
