The Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Adityapur which got a boost during the international trade fair in New Delhi has been impacted by Covid-19.

With half of its workforce testing positive for Covid, work at EMC has come to a standstill.

“We had made enough progress and had roped in several electronic companies to set up units within the EMC. Representatives from several companies were scheduled to visit the site but had to cancel them. And now we have had to shut down the office as half of our staff have been affected by the coronavirus,” said EMC consultant, Ashok Kumar Bihany while talking to The Telegraph Online.

Bihany said that the management was eager to entertain most of the companies that had expressed interest. He pointed out they had even planned strike deals with these companies.

"We want to see EMC progress. But our workers are also important to us. We can't risk their lives for the cluster’s gain,” said the EMC consultant.

He informed that work would resume once the present spell of third wave is over.

EMC houses four blocks of 92 flatted factories. Majority units in these factories are still lying vacant. EMC is planning to lease them out soon.

Set up under the command area of Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority, the EMC has a separate entity and will be confined to manufacturing activities of electronic goods only.
