The number of Covid-19 patients in Jharkhand crossed the 2,000 mark on Saturday after 59 fresh cases were reported from at least 10 districts, health officials said.
With a three-fold rise in cases this month, Jharkhand went from only 661 Covid-19 infections on June 1 to 2,024 infections on June 20, figures compiled by the state’s health department have highlighted.
As many as 23 cases, the highest among all districts, were reported from East Singhbhum. Of the 2,000-odd cases reported in Jharkhand so far, as many as 309 were from the district.
According to a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM) on Saturday, 69 patients recovered from Covid-19 from Friday midnight to Saturday late evening. This is the third instance this week when the number of recoveries have surpassed that of fresh cases, NHM officials said.
Saturday’s findings take the total count of Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand to 2,024, the NHM bulletin stated. The number of patients who recovered from the infection stands at 1,404, while the number of active cases is 609, the bulletin added.
With the death toll rising, the state’s mortality rate for Covid-19 has also increased to 0.52 per cent. The mortality rate, however, is lower than the national average of 3.36 per cent, the NHM bulletin highlighted. The recovery rate in Jharkhand is 60.73 per cent, the bulletin added.
Of the 2,024 cases reported in the state so far, at least 1,644 are that of migrant workers who returned to Jharkhand after May 5, health officials said. The government has so far collected samples of 1.2 lakh suspected patients and tested 1.19 lakh of them.
Of the 10 Covid-19 deaths in Jharkhand so far, four were reported from Ranchi, two from Bokaro and one each from Giridih, Gumla, Simdega and Koderma, government data highlighted.
