Lalu’s mother Sajni Devi, a daily wage earner, has alleged that her six-month pregnant daughter developed abdominal pain late on Monday after which they reached PMCH around 3am on Tuesday and doctors prescribed medicines and released her. She died around 10am at home.

The family alleged the doctors released her despite pleas not to.

Gupta called the charges “quite serious”. He directed Dhanbad deputy commissioner Amit Kumar to constitute a committee comprising ADM (law and order) Anil Kumar, civil surgeon Dr Gopal Das and circle officer Prashant Layak to probe and submit a report within a week.

Gupta said he had also instructed senior superintendent of police Kishore Kaushal to probe allegations that Reshma Kumari, 12, of Bright Kusunda area of Dhanbad, killed herself two days after she was beaten by police when she went out to buy groceries.
