The district administration has made arrangements to separately house doctors, nurses and other medical staff who have to deal with Covid-19 cases if reported from the steel city.

The steel city has not reported any Covid-19 positive case yet. To ensure that doctors, nurses and other medical staff engaged in the treatment of coronavirus positive patients remain in isolation, the administration on Sunday identified seven places to accommodate them so that they do not have to go back home everyday.

East Singhbhum additional deputy commissioner Saurabh Kumar Sinha said they have identified the seven places — two professional flats in Kadma, Hotel Kuldeep in Jugsalai, Hotel Suman and Hotel Mahalin in Mango, and Dealers Apprentice Hostel and GT Hotel in Telco.

“No coronavirus positive case has been reported from any of the hospitals in the city yet. But tomorrow it may happen. Those who deal with the patient must be kept quarantined in accordance with the concept of social distancing. This is why we are taking steps to get quarantine places for healthcare staff,” said Sinha.

So far, 325 samples were sent to MGM Medical College’s microbiology department for tests as on Sunday but none tested positive, Piyalee Gupta, the in-charge of MGM’s microbiology department, said. Gupta said tests of 20 more samples are pending.
