There will be no relaxation in lockdown norms till May 3 in steel city, but rural areas in East Singhbhum district will get some respite because they fall under the green zone, said police on Sunday.

The district administration is abiding by the guidelines of the ministry of home affairs (MHA), New Delhi, and according to it no additional relief will be given to the residents living in the municipal areas. But in non-municipal areas, industrial activity and agriculture activities can be resumed.

The management of industrial units in non-municipal areas can resume their production but they will have to take permission from the office of the DC. For farm work, no permission is required.

In accordance to the MHA guidelines, the lockdown in Jamshedpur, which comprises Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, Jugsalai Municipality and Mango Notified Area, will remain effective till May 3 like it has been since March 25.

Superintendent of police (city) Subhash Chandra Jat said the restriction on movement of private and commercial vehicles, including two-wheelers, will continue in the city till May 3.

“Relaxation is being given to cases of medical emergency and to those going to buy groceries, vegetables, milk during a stipulated period. Those on the road without a medical emergency or not to buy grocery or vegetables will have to show necessary passes. Otherwise the commuter will be prosecuted,” Jat said.

He said police and administrative officials are carrying out round-the-clock duty to curb the spread of Covid-19 by imposing the lockdown norms effectively.

He said they are aware of the immense difficulties being faced by the people because of the lockdown but there is no other alternative but to stay at home.

Ever since the lockdown started on March 25, grocery and milk shops are open from 9am to 7pm, but vegetable shops were restricted to run from 6am to 11am.

District civil surgeon Maheswar Prasad said so far 450 swab samples of suspected coronavirus cases have been tested at MGM.
