Children by now are used to online classes at home in the wake of the lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic, but they sure miss having fun.
To engage them creatively during the lockdown, social organisation The Marwari Yuva Manch Steel City started a weeklong virtual summer camp from Tuesday till May 4.
The virtual summer camp is for free to students between four and 16 years of age with a host of activities and contests.
Usually, Marwari Yuva Manch Steel City organises their annual summer camp with 1,000 children. For the virtual camp, children can register on Google forms circulated or call on 9430170633, 7004982413. Participants will be able to individually register till the last day, May 4, based on events and contests.
On Tuesday, the social outfit started with a contest, Family Photography, where participants had to click and send pictures of their family or other loved ones to designated WhatsApp numbers. Response was good, said secretary of Marwari Yuva Manch Steel City, Prashant Agarwal. “On the first day, we received about 90 entries.”
He added: “Since we cannot meet each other physically, we thought why not introduce something entertaining for children on online platforms WhatsApp, social media platforms and Zoom (videoconferencing app).
Activities include Masterchef, where they have to shoot a video clip of them making a recipe. “To shake things up, the child has to be with dad or a male guardian,” Agarwal said. “There’s Nach Baliye, again a two-minute clip of dance. Kids can upload stand-up comedy videos and demos of best-out-of-waste. We will host workshops with experts giving tips on story-writing and on staying happy during lockdown on Zoom.”
